TITLE The Single Ring Theorem in Random Matrix Theory

ABSTRACT In this talk, I will tell the story of the ``single ring theorem''. I will start the story by a non-Hermitian random matrix model called the Ginibre ensemble. Then I will speak about the development from the Ginibre ensemble to the single ring theorem. I will finish the story by the deformed single ring theorem proved in my recent joint work with Ping Zhong.
